Whale Watching

Whale Watching Tours

For those who have signed up for whale-watching, representatives from Springtide Charters will meet us at the Victoria Conference Centre between 12:30 and 13:00 on Tuesday, September 4. You will pickup your boxed lunch, and then proceed to the docks to suit up. Please make sure you go to the bathroom BEFORE leaving the Conference Centre, as the facilities on the dock are small and can delay the departure of the boats.

For the open boats, Group waivers will be posted on Monday for you to assign yourself to a boat (they will stay up until Tuesday morning, after the coffee break). This will give you a chance to go with your friends/family in the same boat. Everyone must sign the waiver before going in the zodiacs.

For the closed boat, we will provide Springtide with a list of those who signed up, which they will use as a manifest to check people in as they board.

Tour Information from Springtide Charters

Orcas (or Killer Whales) are commonly seen in the local waters off Victoria in April, May, June, July, August and September. We anticipate over a 97% probability of seeing Orcas in the summer months! We also may encounter Humpback Whales, Grey Whales, Minke Whales, Dall’s Porpoise and Harbour Porpoise! Pinnipeds such as California Sea Lions, Northern (Stellar) Sea Lions, Elephant Seals and Harbour Seals are always a joy to see. Bald Eagles soar above the seas and Sea Birds fly close to the water looking for food. These are but a few of the fascinating mammals and sea birds that inhabit our oceans and beautiful island.

Safety is Our Priority. All of our Captains and Marine Biologists are Transport Canada Marine Safety Certified and are highly experienced on the waters throughout Southern Vancouver Island. SpringTide vessels are equipped with the latest in satellite technology, communication systems, radar, safety and rescue equipment, and twin engines.

Naturalist interpretations are offered throughout your excursion. The biology, behavior and habits of the animals will be discussed at the many stops made en route. Photographic opportunities are phenomenal!
